Civic Engagement is everyone’s responsibility. If we want to improve our community, we should take initiative rather than wait for permission from a leader to do it for us. Youth in many countries participate in various actions to leading social changes.
Myanmar youth have been instrumental on social media to set up campaign for amplifying social awareness on Myanmar floods and they are also involved in mobilizing food relief items for hungry flood survivors. Youth from Syria and Yemen are cleaning waste and debris on the streets as conflict continues. In war, there are no city workers and youth’s action could prevent sanitation-related diseases. In Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, youth use music, arts and youth radio programs to promote Ebola awareness through UNDP support and through their youth groups.
It is vital for youth to take action in the well-being of their community and youth is ready to take up the torch from older generations.
